SUMAITRI is a Delhi-based voluntary organization, which is running a crisis intervention centre for people who are depressed, distressed or may be feeling suicidal. Since its launch in September 1988, over a lakh people have been helped through phone and visit.

People in crisis are helped by SUMAITRI volunteers who give a minimum of five hours a week from their personal/professional lives. They keep SUMAITRI open all days of the week, 365 days of the year with NO HOLIDAYS. What is noteworthy is that no volunteer is given any honorarium for his time, not even a transport allowance.

All help offered by SUMAITRI is free and confidential, and the anonymity of both callers and volunteers is maintained.
